Mantel Decorating: Simple & Classic

For those of you lucky enough to have a fireplace with a mantel, the choices for how to decorate it are endless. Mirror, art, seasonally, photos, etc. I helped out a friend over the weekend decorate his family room mantel since it was lacking some purpose. With all the options available, sometimes it's hard to choose what would look best. I like some symmetry without it being identical. Check out the changes below:

Here's the Before..  hello Marilyn...

and the After with the new additions!

You can see the lanterns and the candle holders are about the same height, which provides a nice balance but are different enough to be interesting. The mirror will be hung up instead of leaning to add extra height. These are items that look good year-round and with a few small touches can easily be updated for the season (pumpkins, garland, fresh flowers, etc).

The octagon wood mirror and small sphere are from Home Goods. We used these candles to go on the holders and inside the lanterns, all from World Market.

It's a quick change but in my opinion.. MUCH IMPROVED!

What do you think?!
